Visit South Center, Minister Suharso Delivers a Number of Recommendations for SSTC
Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa conveyed a number of recommendations for Triangular South-South Cooperation, when visiting the South Center in Geneva, Switzerland, Monday (15/01/2024).
During the visit, the Minister stated that Triangular South-South Cooperation had been designated as one of the development priorities in the long-term planning document. According to him, SSTC activities will be carried out by ministries and institutions.
In line with that, the Minister expressed his views regarding SSTC in Indonesia. He believes that the majority of cooperation is dominated by project-based development cooperation.
According to him, this causes misalignment between existing cooperation initiatives and national priorities, and also makes it difficult to ensure the continuation and sustainability of projects.
“To prioritize the importance of national priorities and global interests, it is important for South Center to map the supply and demand for SSTC from both beneficiary countries and development partners, such as NORAD and Indonesian Aid,” said the Minister.
The minister added that this data will help strategic alignment between domestic and global issues for Southern countries, and open access and opportunities to work closely with development partners.
On behalf of the Indonesian Government, the Minister also invited The South Center and NORAD to expand cooperation in development.
“To explore the potential for further collaboration, we are pleased to forge a closer partnership with The South Center and NORAD. This collaboration aims to identify key areas where the exchange of technology and expertise can increase development capacity in countries of the South, ” said the Minister.
“This collaboration can take the form of mapping resource centers in Indonesia, exchanging data and knowledge, training programs, workshops and capacity building in several priority areas, such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, natural resource management, digital technology and big data, as well as other strategic sectors among developing countries,” he concluded.
