Receives Canadian Ambassador, Minister Suharso Explores Potential Cooperation
Minister of National Development Planning Suharso Monoarfa explored a number of potential collaborations, when receiving a courtesy visit from the Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia HE Jess Dutton, Monday (12/02/2024).
One of the potential collaborations discussed is related to inter-island transportation modes, especially seaplanes, where Bappenas currently plays the role of coordinator in drafting seaplane licensing policies.
Apart from that, the two parties also discussed the potential for cooperation in developing the Indonesian IKN. The Minister stated that the Indonesian Government greatly welcomed the interest of partner countries including Canada in bilateral cooperation. According to him, developing the Indonesian IKN is one of the current national priorities.
On the same occasion, the Minister also expressed his appreciation for the launch of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. According to him, this momentum is appropriate, because it coincides with the preparation of the 2025-2029 National Medium Term Development Plan.
The Minister said that both parties could align priorities to support Indonesia’s development
Closing the meeting, the Minister hoped that Canada could be more active in collaborating with the Indonesian Government in the future.
The Minister gave an example that Indonesia could benefit from support from Canada’s development cooperation programs in the green and blue economy, reforming the Indonesian health system, and community-to-community contact through scholarships.
“Bappenas would very much welcome the opportunity to discuss future details with our partners to improve the way Canada implements development cooperation programs in Indonesia,” continued the Minister.
The Minister also appreciated the bilateral cooperation between the two countries which has existed for a long time.
“This collaboration reflects the strong commitment of both countries to continue to build mutually beneficial and sustainable partnerships in various fields,” concluded the Minister.
