Prevalence of Stunting in Eastern Indonesia
Stunting is a crucial problem which is considered to hinder various development problems, especially human resource development. As is known, Indonesia has set an ambitious target to become a developed country by 2045.
To achieve this ambitious target, superior and competitive human resources are one of the prerequisites.
The prevalence of stunting is still high, especially in Eastern Indonesia (KTI). With projected high population growth in the area, tackling stunting becomes more urgent because it can have a direct impact on the overall quality of human resources.
Of the 5 provinces with the highest prevalence, 4 of them are provinces in the Eastern Region of Indonesia. The five provinces include East Nusa Tenggara Province at 35.30%, West Sulawesi 35.00%, Papua 34.60%, West Nusa Tenggara 32.70%, Aceh 31.20%.
These figures far exceed the national stunting prevalence rate of only 21.60%. This condition emphasizes the need for significant and coordinated intervention at the national level to overcome the problem of stunting in remote and vulnerable areas in Indonesia.
This high stunting prevalence rate is not only a problem for the 5 provinces with the highest rates, but also indicates a serious challenge at the national level.
If grouped in detail, 22 of them have a stunting prevalence above the national average, while only 16 provinces are below the national average. Meanwhile, there are 5 provinces that have the highest prevalence.
Identification of provinces with the highest levels of stunting allows the government and related organizations to develop and implement focused and targeted interventions.
In addition, knowledge about groups of provinces with low stunting prevalence can help identify best practices and factors that contribute to good health and nutrition.
This can be used as a model for other provinces, enabling improvements in the quality of interventions and stunting prevention programs.
