Minister Suharso Reveals Government Program to Reduce Inequality

Minister of National Development Planning Suharso Monoara revealed a number of government priority programs to reduce inequality in a joint working meeting with the DPR RI Budget Agency, Minister of Finance and Governor of Bank Indonesia, Tuesday (04/06/2024).
The Minister said that Indonesia’s Gini ratio in 2023 will be 0.388. To reduce this inequality, the Minister explained that the government has formulated various programs in the 2025 Government Work Plan.
These priority programs include integration of social assistance, social security and adaptive community empowerment. Another priority program is the social inclusion program for the welfare of people with disabilities, the elderly and other vulnerable groups.
Apart from the above, the government also prioritizes One Socio-Economic Registration System (Regsosek), a national social security system reform program and a care economy development program to expand social protection and welfare.
Apart from discussing inequality, the Minister also highlighted the target for the percentage of open unemployment in 2025. According to him, the Open Unemployment Rate is targeted to be in the range of 4.5 to 5.0%.
To achieve this target, the Minister explained that the government has formulated various strategies as follows.
First, creating inclusive employment opportunities through intensive investment growth in medium and high competency workers, growth and development of micro, small and medium enterprises as well as creating a conducive employment climate.
Second, implementing strategies for preparing work capabilities and increasing the skills of the workforce. Third, facilitate mobility and protection of workers, as well as strengthen domestic and international labor inspections. Fourth, develop the potential for green jobs.
Closing his speech, the Minister hoped that the principles of sustainability could always be applied to all ongoing government programs and would also be continued by future governments. So that medium and long term development achievements can proceed according to what has been planned.
