Minister Suharso Discusses Population Management Plan and Green Plan with Guylain Nyembo Mbwizya

Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa discussed population management planning and green planning during a bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and Development Assistance Coordination of the Democratic Republic of Congo Guylain Nyembo Mbwizya, Tuesday (03/09/2024).
The Minister said that population planning and management in Indonesia is an important aspect of the country’s development strategy that addresses the challenges of a large and diverse population.
According to him, population planning and management includes various initiatives aimed at controlling population growth, improving population quality, and ensuring sustainable development.
“As an illustration, Indonesia’s population in 2045 is projected to be around 324 million and ranked 6th in the world. Indonesia also has a demographic bonus, where the productive-age population plays an important role as the main agent of economic development and growth,” the Minister said.
“Our national policy is called Family Planning (KB). This policy has been started since the 1970s and has been named the best family planning in the world. The goal of this policy is to limit the number of children to two per family,” he added.
The Minister added that family planning has the slogan ‘Life without family planning, life without future’.
During the meeting, the Minister also discussed the challenges in green planning.
“Indonesia faces several significant challenges in green planning, which involves integrating environmental sustainability into urban development, infrastructure, and economic policies,” she explained.
“The main challenges we face include deforestation and land use, climate change and energy transition,” the Minister continued.
Minister Suharso hopes that this meeting can be the first step to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation in the future.
“We look forward to further discussions on cooperation that can benefit both countries in sectors that can strengthen our bilateral relations,” the Minister said.
The meeting opened the door to the possibility of closer collaboration between Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo in various strategic sectors, with the common goal of supporting sustainable development and innovation in resource management.
