Met ESCAP Executive Secretary, Minister Suharso Reveals Indonesia’s SDGs Achievements
Minister of National Development Planning Suharso Monoarfa revealed Indonesia’s SDGs achievements after meeting with the Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Wednesday (20/12/2023).
Of the 224 indicators evaluated, the Minister said that most of the indicators had been achieved, namely 62% or 138 indicators. According to him, quite good progress can be seen in the environmental pillars, as well as law and governance.
Furthermore, the Minister explained that the indicators that require special attention and acceleration are 24% or 55 indicators. Meanwhile, data for 63 indicators still has not been found in 2022. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen efforts to provide data.
Apart from the above, the Minister also informed that Indonesia has used a new approach in achieving the SDGs. According to him, this approach is to localize the SDGs.
“Localizing the SDGs is not only a means to accelerate the achievement of goals, but is an integral part of achieving Indonesia’s Vision 2045 to become a developed country that is sovereign and sustainable,” he said.
In efforts to localize the SDGs, the Minister also explained Indonesia’s achievements in innovative approaches and exemplary programs for localizing the SDGs including the following.
First, the Flying Doctor Service Program in North Kalimantan Province which is designed to ensure the provision of special medical services to people living in remote or farthest areas, quickly, precisely and at no cost.
Second, the Energy Independent Village Program in Central Java, which uses locally produced renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, micro-hydro, biogas and biofuel. This approach creates energy self-sufficient communities, drives the expansion of the green economy, generates an ecosystem for green jobs, and helps protect and restore the environment.
Third, the implementation of the Smart Farming Program through real-time monitoring using technology such as drones and predictions of crop conditions, providing significant assistance to farmers in reducing production costs and increasing crop yields.
“Local governments in Indonesia play a key role in localizing the SDGs. “They regularly monitor and review progress towards the SDGs in their region, identify gaps, and make necessary adjustments,” he concluded.
