Indonesia-Timor Leste Sign MoU on Development Cooperation

The Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and the Ministry of Strategic Planning and Investment of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Thursday (10/10/2024).
The MoU was signed by Minister Suharso as Minister of National Development Planning and Minister Gastão Francisco de Sousa as Minister of Strategic Planning and Investment of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
The Minister said that the MoU will serve as a formal basis to initiate cooperation programmes in strategic areas that are in line with global development priorities and agendas such as the 2030 SDGs in each country.
According to him, the sectors of cooperation in this MoU include strengthening basic infrastructure development, sustainable cities, agriculture and village development, tourism, affordable and clean energy, health, digital development, social inclusion, disaster mitigation and climate change, as well as private sector investment.
“The MoU also mandates the establishment of a Joint Committee to strengthen collaboration in terms of planning, smooth implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of the cooperation programme,” the Minister said.
“The Joint Committee can further explore technical discussions related to planned forms of cooperation, such as human resource development programmes,” he added.
According to the Minister, the programme aims to share Indonesia’s good practices in implementing an integrated approach to planning between central and local governments as well as coordinated overall infrastructure planning.
The Minister hopes that the MoU will bring real benefits to the people of Indonesia and Timor-Leste, and support the achievement of sustainable and inclusive development goals.
The MoU is a follow-up to the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholders Partnership, which aims to strengthen development partnerships towards transformative change.
