Government Intervention to Increase Indonesia’s Digital Competitiveness at the Global Level
Sustainable and effective economic transformation in Indonesia is increasingly strengthened by efforts to increase digital competitiveness.
The national medium-term development plan sets the ambition to increase the Digital Competitiveness Index at Global Level from 51st in 2025 to 44th in 2029.
To realize this vision, the Indonesian government has formulated a number of interventions which include developing digital platforms, improving ICT infrastructure, creating digital transformation enablers, strengthening digital human resources, and increasing the adoption of digital technology in various sectors.
First, the development of Indonesia’s digital super platform. One of the key steps in achieving digital economic transformation is the development of Indonesia’s digital super platform.
This platform is expected to become a forum for integrating various digital services, ranging from e-commerce, digital finance, to health and education services. With the existence of a digital super platform, it is hoped that there will be synergy between sectors and strengthening of the national digital ecosystem.
Second, improving the quality of ICT infrastructure. The importance of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure in supporting economic transformation cannot be ignored.
The government will focus on improving the quality and reach of ICT infrastructure, including improving internet connectivity, upgrading hardware, and providing reliable telecommunications services. Quality ICT infrastructure will be the basis for the development of various economic sectors.
Third, creating digital transformation enablers. Creating digital transformation enablers is a strategic step in stimulating technology adoption in various sectors.
This can be done by providing incentives, policies and regulations that support digital innovation. This includes simplifying business processes, providing fiscal incentives, and supporting research and development of the latest technology.
Fourth, strengthening digital human resources. Human resources (HR) who are skilled and trained in digital technology are the main key in realizing economic transformation.
The government will focus on developing educational curricula that support digital skills, HR training in various sectors, as well as career development programs for the digital workforce. Strengthening digital human resources will create a workforce that is ready to face the demands of the digital economy.
Fifth, increasing the adoption of digital technology in various sectors. Digital technology adoption needs to be increased across all economic sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, health and education.
The above sectors will be encouraged to adopt technology through incentives, mentoring and providing the necessary resources. Increasing the adoption of digital technology will make a significant contribution to the operational efficiency and competitiveness of these sectors.
