Facing Geopolitical Pressure: Mitigation as the Key to National Economic Security and Stability

The world has always been in the shadow of dynamic and unpredictable geopolitical pressures throughout its history. Rapid political, economic, and social changes are often triggered by significant geopolitical events.
Real-life examples of such events include the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the Gulf War in 1991, the 9/11 incident in America, the Iraq War in 2003, and most recently, the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Each of these events has had a major impact on regional and global stability, and has influenced the foreign and security policies of many countries, including Indonesia.
Geopolitical pressures not only affect the countries directly involved, but also have broad impacts that can affect the security and stability of other countries.
Indonesia, as a country with a strategic position in the Southeast Asia region, must have strong mitigation capabilities to face and anticipate geopolitical pressures that may occur in the future.
Geopolitical mitigation is the ability to reduce or manage the negative impacts of geopolitical events. This involves various strategies, including diplomacy, international cooperation, strengthening national defense, and economic and social readiness to face crisis situations.
Given the uncertainty that always accompanies geopolitical events, having good mitigation capabilities is key to maintaining national stability and security, including economic stability.
Geopolitical pressure is an inseparable part of the global dynamics that must be faced by every country, including Indonesia. By having good mitigation capabilities, Indonesia can be better prepared to face geopolitical uncertainty in the future and maintain economic stability.
Lessons learned from past geopolitical events must be used as a basis for developing a comprehensive mitigation strategy, in order to maintain national stability and security and achieve long-term development goals, towards a stronger and more resilient Indonesia in facing global challenges.
