Commemorating International Disability Day, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Launches Policy Paper Entitled Child With Disability
The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas launched a policy paper entitled Child With Disability in commemoration of International Disability Day, at the Bappenas Office, Jalan Taman Suropati, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (20/12/2023).
Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa in his speech stated that the Indonesian Government is always committed to fulfilling the rights and facilitation of persons with disabilities, especially through services and protection.
Based on Socio-Economic Registration data, the Minister said that the population with moderate and severe disabilities that had been identified was 4.3 million people.
According to him, this population group still faces various challenges in fulfilling basic needs such as health, education, protection, and providing infrastructure and connectivity that are still not fully inclusive.
In order to realize a Golden Indonesia 2045, the Minister emphasized that fulfilling the rights of people with disabilities is very important in order to reach 0 percent poverty, reduce inequality, and increase the competitiveness of human resources.
“Indonesia’s Vision 2045 will be impossible to achieve without fulfilling the rights of persons with disabilities,” said the Minister.
“Therefore, the Indonesian Government is committed to continuing to encourage the involvement of people with disabilities in various sectors through inclusive and progressive development agendas and policy frameworks,” he added.
To ensure this commitment, the Minister said that the government has a National Action Plan for Persons with Disabilities (RAN PD), and continues to encourage the realization of Regional Action Plans for Persons with Disabilities (RAD PD) in all Provinces.
“Implementation to achieve RAN PD targets is carried out by involving the participation of the community, academics, practitioners and other non-government sectors,” he said.
As additional information, the launch of this policy paper coincides with the launch of the INKLUSI and UNICEF Programs, the Five Year Report (CATAHU) on the Fulfillment of Disability Rights prepared by FORMASI Disabilities, as well as the Results of the Study of Children with Disabilities by The SMERU Research Institute.
