Canadian International Policy

Canada, a country with a strong commitment to gender equality and global prosperity, has implemented a number of international policies aimed at promoting peace, security and sustainable development throughout the world.
Two key policies that stand out in Canada’s foreign affairs approach are the Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) and Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.
First, the Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) is a central cornerstone of Canada’s overseas development approach.
With a focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment, FIAP considers that advancing the role of women and girls in development is key to creating more peaceful, inclusive and sustainable societies.
This approach not only sees women as beneficiaries, but also as active agents of change in addressing the root causes of poverty. Thus, FIAP is not just an aid program, but a philosophy that views gender equality as a prerequisite for sustainable development.
Second, Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, introduced in November 2022, marks Canada’s commitment to strengthening relations with a region of increasing economic and political importance.
Over a 10-year period, this strategy aims to increase regional cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Region in a variety of areas, including economics, trade, immigration policy, the environment and security.
By establishing strategic goals and initiatives such as promoting peace, expanding trade resilience, and building a sustainable and green future, Canada seeks to play a more active and engaged role in the region’s development.
Through the implementation of FIAP and the Indo-Pacific Strategy, Canada is strengthening its reputation as a country that prioritizes gender equality, peace and sustainable development in its foreign policy.
By combining a feminist approach to development assistance with a long-term commitment to strategic regions, Canada seeks to be an empowered partner to the global community in achieving shared goals for a better future.
