Bappenas and Pertamina Sign MoU to Accelerate SDGs Achievements

Minister of National Development Planning Suharso Monoarfa representing the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas signed an MoU with PT Pertamina (Persero) to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals, Monday (10/06/2024).

In his remarks, the Minister said that increasing economic growth and population would have an impact on increasing energy consumption.

According to him, this consumption is projected to increase 4 to 5 times by 2060. If Indonesia still depends on fossil energy, the Minister explained that carbon emissions will increase massively.

Apart from this, the Minister also said that the mix of oil and natural gas in the primary energy mix is still very significant, namely 30% and 16% respectively.

“In the transition period towards renewable energy, natural gas is an ideal energy source to rely on,” said the Minister.

“For this reason, future oil and gas development needs to be directed through increasing low-emission fuels, implementing Biofuels (BBN), and increasing the use of natural gas in the industrial and household sectors,” added the Minister.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized that synergy between planning and implementation of development policies is very necessary to accelerate the achievement of national and global targets in the energy sector.

“Specifically, this memorandum of understanding was made with the aim of working together in achieving sustainable development goals as well as the business process of preparing planning and implementing development policies in the energy, oil and natural gas sectors,” said the Minister.

“This aims to support national energy security, increase economic added value, implement a green economy, and energy transition,” he continued.

According to him, activities that will be carried out during the cooperation process include joint studies, joint supervision, monitoring and evaluation, mainstreaming of sustainable development goals/SDGs, implementation of environmental, social and governance (ESG), information exchange and dissemination, as well as increasing competency and resource capability. man.

Through the signing of a memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement between the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and PT. Pertamina (Persero), the Minister hopes to combine the resources, expertise and networks of both parties to realize inclusive sustainable development.
