Attending the Launch of the Single Prosecution System Study, Minister Suharso Reviews Long-Term Legal Development Agenda

Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa reviewed Indonesia’s long-term legal development agenda while attending the launch of a study on the single prosecution system, organised by the Attorney General’s Office, Thursday (01/08/2024).
Referring to the draft National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025-2045, the Minister said there were two agendas related to legal development in Indonesia. Namely the transformation of governance and transformation land for the rule of law, stability and leadership of Indonesia.
The transformation of the prosecution system and the advocate general, according to him, is one of the strategies formulated in the medium and long-term planning documents, to realise the rule of law.
To achieve this goal, the Minister emphasised the importance of strengthening the institutions of the prosecutor’s office and the Attorney General, as well as improving the professionalism and welfare of prosecutors.
“The two strategies were formulated as steps to strengthen the prosecutor’s institution as a case controller (dominus litis) and advocaat general which has a subjective superlative position in carrying out its duties and functions,” said the Minister.
“With the strengthening of the prosecutor’s office and the Attorney General, it is expected that law enforcement in the future will be more effective and integrated,” he added.
With effective and integrated law enforcement, the Minister hopes that prison overcrowding and restorative justice can be overcome and the issue of back and forth of case files between investigators and prosecutors can be prevented.
Concluding his remarks, the Minister emphasised the importance of cooperation from all parties to realise these ideals. According to him, all parties are very important and must participate.
“Hopefully, some of the inputs and notes that I have conveyed earlier can be useful for the institutional strengthening of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia in realising the Golden Indonesia in 2045,’’ he concluded.
