Achievements of Food and Agriculture Development: Maintaining Resilience Amidst Challenges

Food and agriculture development is a crucial aspect in the effort to achieve food security and community welfare. In recent years, this sector has shown significant achievements, even amid global challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Some of these achievements reflect the commitment and efforts of the government and the community in ensuring the availability of quality and affordable food for all levels of society.
One of the main indicators of the success of food and agriculture development is the growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector. During the pandemic, the sector has been able to grow positively, showing strong resilience in the face of various challenges.
A stable GDP not only contributes to the national economy, but also has a positive impact on the employment and income of farmers and fishermen.
Individual food energy and protein consumption levels also showed satisfactory results. The average energy consumption of 2,100 kilocalories and 57 grams of protein per capita per day reflects that people can still access nutritious food needed for a healthy, active and productive life. The availability of sufficient and quality food is essential to support the quality of life and competitiveness of individuals in various aspects of life.
In addition, the exchange rate for farmers (NTP) and fishermen (NTN), which is maintained above 100, shows that the income of farmers and fishermen remains stable, and even tends to increase. The NTP in 2023 reached 112.46, while the NTN reached 105.40.
This shows that agricultural and fisheries products are increasingly valuable in the market, providing incentives for farmers and fishermen to continue producing and improving the quality of their products.
The production of food and agricultural commodities in Indonesia also remains capable of meeting domestic demand and imports. This is important to maintain the availability of food, feed, bioenergy, and public health needs. With the ability to keep pace with these needs, Indonesia shows great potential in developing the food and agriculture sector in the future.
The stability of food prices and inflation is also another indicator of success. In an often volatile economic situation, the government’s ability to control inflation and ensure food prices remain stable is crucial to prevent food crises that could harm the public, especially vulnerable groups.
In this regard, the government has also shown a strong commitment to providing support to those in need. Through social protection programmes, food aid, subsidies, and facilitation of agricultural facilities and infrastructure, the government seeks to ensure food accessibility for all levels of society. This is an important step in realising social justice and reducing economic disparities in society.
Overall, the achievements and realisation of food and agricultural development in Indonesia show positive and sustainable results. This success not only contributes to food security, but also supports the improvement of people’s overall quality of life.
